Sunny Jim White

Artist: Sunny Jim White
From: Osprey, FL

James “Sunny Jim” White spent more than a decade living and working in the Cayman Islands, and this experience gave him plenty of material for original songs. With Sunny Jim’s laid-back attitude and island style, his music is often described as uniquely “American Caribbean.” From 1989 to 2000, James was the artist-in-residence at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman, one of the finest resorts in the Caribbean. During those years he developed the versatility to entertain corporate groups of any size and orientation. At home now on Florida’s Sunshine Coast, Sunny Jim is performing for audiences all across the U.S.

From ballads to fun-loving, upbeat Soca tunes, Sunny Jim’s songs tell stories of life on a Caribbean island. His reputation as a storytelling songwriter grows with each new release. Since 1991, James has produced and recorded five CDs of mostly original music. Four were recorded in the Cayman Islands, and his latest was released in Florida. Sunny Jim’s original songs are among his most requested. In addition to his own music, James’ repertoire includes traditional Caribbean tunes, and you can hear the musical influence of such artists as Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, and the Beatles.

Sunny Jim is a regular on Jimmy Buffett’s Radio Margaritaville, an internet radio station (www.margaritaville.com). In 1999, Radio Margaritaville traveled to the Cayman Islands to broadcast James’ show live to a world-wide internet audience, an experience that inspired a song that ended up on his fourth CD, Tropical Trader. His other records include; Postcards from Seven Mile Beach, Life in the Laid Back Lane, Sandbar Serenade and Escape Artist. Two of his songs won awards in the Cayman National Songwriters Competition.

"From the opening notes of 'So Far, So Fast" (born as 'The Radio Margaritaville Song!!!'), James White's new Tropical Trader takes us off into a musical journey of the first order - a trip to places you want to go back to again and again. This long-awaited new music from Sunny Jim is a staple on Radio Margaritaville." -
Steve Huntington, Radio Margaritaville.
