Fever Band
Artist:
Island Fever Band
From: Baton Rouge, LA
The Island Fever Band started with a bonding between Murray and Bert way back in the late seventies. Both worked together and would typically spend their lunch hours strumming guitars in an abandoned engineering trailer in Baton Rouge.
They incorporated lots of Jimmy Buffet songs in their repertoire and it seemed that all the latent Parrotheads in Baton Rouge would appear at their shows.
It was aboard a yacht on Lake Pontchartrain that Bert Toms, the band's co-founder, lead guitar player and songwriter got inspiration to write the beautiful ballad and CD title cut "Sweet Pontchartrain". Amid other upbeat and fun songs like "Rum Lag", "The Ghost of the Titanic" (you'll love this one), "A Girl Like You", "Better Than Buffett" and "There Ain't No Kokomo" you'll find another great ballad entitled "The Old Man of the Sea" (remember "that troubadour's dad was this old sailors son" - the listener is challenged to figure out about whom the writer is speaking).
From private parties and bar rooms to public events such as the Louisiana State Fair and the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, Louisiana's Island Fever Band has come a long way since the lunchtime jam sessions in an abandoned trailer.
