Life On the Gulf
Jake And The Half Conched Band (2006) Life
on The Gulf by Jake
And The Half Conched Band
By his own
admission, Jake stated, "[Recording] that CD got the best of
me because I had to record the vocal on my home computer and had
no help, no punching in, no singing parts over again etc... I just
had to hit record and go with it." Such is
the life of a fledgling Trop-Rock artist. Aside
from some minor bumps and production hiccups, Life on The
Gulf is a welcome addition to any Parrothead collection.
Well-written songs with great arrangements, mingled with
insightful lyrics make for a great start in Jake's career. Definitely
not a party CD (and more Island-Country than Trop-Rock) the set
includes a wide range of musical feelings, from the upbeat title
track to the pensive and reflectively sweet mood created by Me
And My Boat. As for this Parrothead, I'm looking forward to
Jake's follow-up work, due out later this year.
